"Has retenido el paquete roto" al intentar instalar R

Sé que esta pregunta ya se ha hecho, pero todas las respuestas publicadas no pudieron ayudar a resolver mi problema. Intenté el siguiente comando en Ubuntu 14.04:

sudo apt-get install r-base-core

y obtengo:

Muchas gracias Wilf por responder tu pregunta. Pero alguien más me dio la respuesta en la lista de correo R, ejecutando los siguientes comandos:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:marutter/rrutter
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install r-base r-base-dev

me ayudó a resolver mi problema!

Depends: libtiff4 but it is not installable

Este problema parece deberse a que el libtiff4paquete no está disponible para Ubuntu 14.04

Entonces, una posible solución sería descargar la versión para Saucy, la última versión compatible, desde aquí o aquí :

Para i386:

wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/t/tiff3/libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg -i libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_i386.deb

Para amd64:

wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/universe/t/tiff3/libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libtiff4_3.9.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb

Entonces es posible que pueda instalarlo r-base-core: si este paquete está disponible en los repositorios predeterminados de Ubuntu, es posible que desee presentar un informe de error que no tenga las dependencias requeridas.

Editar: ¿Qué versión estás intentando instalar? La versión aquí aparentemente depende de libtiff5cuál está disponible ...

Otra forma de abordar este problema es: descargue los softwares / paquetes R necesarios en formato .deb desde https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/xenial-cran35/ e instálelo a través del software Ubuntu.
