Busqué durante horas una solución a este problema, y ​​finalmente encontré una sugerencia que decía cambiar servidores para descargar actualizaciones. Hice esto, y me dio un error 404 cuando hice clic en "Verificar" en el Administrador de actualizaciones. cd /var/lib/apt
sudo mv lists lists.old
sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
sudo apt-get clean 
sudo apt-get update

Básicamente, abres una terminal y escribes sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. Eso lo hizo por mí.

La respuesta aceptada no me ayudó en mi caso (Ubuntu 13.10), pero pude solucionar el problema actualizando a través de la línea de comandos en lugar de a través de Software Updater (en caso de que alguien más se encuentre con este problema).

sudo aptitude upgrade

me presentó el paquete en particular que provenía de una fuente no confiable (Google Music Manager) y me preguntó si quería aceptarlo y actualizarlo.

Tuve exactamente el mismo error al intentar actualizar el Indicador del sistema.

En mi caso fue por la falta de claves GPG. Aquí hay una respuesta que le indicará que instale un administrador de PPA y puede intentar importar todas las claves que faltan. Hice esto y no me dio ninguna confirmación de que se importaron las claves faltantes, pero luego ejecuté la actualización y se instaló bien.

Es un mensaje de error horrible (no útil) que debo decir en este caso.
