¿Cómo puedo ver (en mi pantalla local) emacs (y otras aplicaciones gráficas) ejecutándose en un VPS?

El VPS ejecuta CentOS 6.x

Parece que esta publicación es muy relevante, pero ni -Y ni -X funcionaron. (Como confío en el servidor remoto, pero siempre prefiero la seguridad más estricta si es posible).

NO creo tener instalado xauth, así que intentaré arreglarlo primero ...

xauth no fue instalado. Después de instalarlo (con sudo yum install xauth), pude ver emacs (y presumiblemente otras aplicaciones gráficas) en mi host local. (Volverá y 'responderá' la pregunta después de 10 horas si nadie me gana).
